Information
The Whanganui River
is a great adventure for all.
Our trips
are ideal for those wishing to have a relaxing holiday, but
include enough challenges to create a fun experience. It’s
a great chance to really get away from it all for a few days
in perfect remoteness. No telephones...no televisions. Just
you and nature.
We cater for a great variety of people from all age groups with the emphasis on enjoyment; so a moderate level of fitness is all that is required for the Canoes/Kayaks. If you do have a low level of fitness, please be honest with yourself and choose a Jet Boat ride, or a shorter Canoe Journey or take an extra day to complete your Canoe Trip.
Taumarunui Canoe Hire and Jet Boat Tours starts its journeys
at our Farm Base, Taumarunui, Ohinepane or Whakahoro, and collects people from their Canoe Trip at Ohinepane, Whakahoro or Pipiriki.
Vehicle access to the river by road
is limited between Whakahoro and Pipiriki.
The Whanganui River
from Taumarunui to Pipiriki is known as a Department of Conservation
(DoC) Great Walk.
DoC provides huts and campsites situated
along the river.
There is a ‘Facility User Pass’ which costs $60 per Adult (discounted to $45 if purchased prior to commencing the Journey) and a Youth Pass is FREE for Youth aged from 11-18 years old. This is known as a ‘Full Journey Pass’, and is valid for up to 4 nights/5 days.
For those just Camping for one night the cost is $10 an Adult, and Youth are free.
We include this cost in our price as
these passes are compulsory under DoC. We issue these passes
before your departure on one of
our trips.
Your money is used to provide and maintain the services DoC
provide. It helps sustain the native wildlife, so that all
future Manuhiri (visitors) are able to share and enjoy the
Whanganui River National Park experience.
Huts and campsites are on a first
come, first served basis, no reservations are taken.
The huts have bunk beds, mattresses,
heating facilities, water supply, basic kitchen and toilets.
Campsites have ample tent sites, medium shelter, water supply,
toilets, table and seating. These sites are situated higher
than the river.
